Expo 2020 has been cancelled.
We are in unprecedented times. The impact of COVID-19 (or more commonly known as Coronavirus) is being felt far and wide across every part of our lives. Just recently, the NBA put their season on hiatus, the PGA Tour announced they will play their events without galleries and California Governor Gavin Newsom recommended that Californians postpone or cancel all large gatherings indefinitely to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. Under a new policy issued by his Department of Public Health, Newsom said public events should be limited to no more than 250 people and should not proceed unless organizers could ensure at least 6 feet of distance between attendees. Gatherings of people who are at high risk of contracting the virus, he said, should be kept to 10 or less.
“Changing our actions for a short period of time will save the life of one or more people you know,” Newsom said in a statement. “That’s the choice before us. Each of us has extraordinary power to slow the spread of this disease.”
Because the health, safety and well-being of our staff, customers and vendor partners comes before everything else we do at Morton Golf and Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, we have made the extremely difficult decision to cancel our Haggin Oaks Golf Expo scheduled in late April, 2020. This decision was not made lightly. We recognize the deep impact it will have on the golf community in the Greater Sacramento region. For 44 straight years, the Haggin Oaks Golf Expo has proven to be the largest consumer golf event in the world. 25,000 golfers have come to look to this event as the unofficial kick-off to their golf season.
We recognize the importance we have to the community to keep everyone safe above all else. We want to make it clear that we are in it together and we always have been. As we look back after this emergency, we want to say we successfully protected our team members, customers, and communities through this pandemic. Mark your calendars for April 23-25, 2021. We promise we will be busy over the course of the next year to make sure next year’s Golf Expo is the best one ever. Until then, be safe and keep swinging…
